VOLATILE climate conditions and challenging vintages face winemakers according to the 20th annual Finlaysons’ Wine Roadshow about to visit the Margaret River region.
Finlaysons’ wine partner, Will Taylor, said the 2012 vintage “generally produced very good quality, but was low yielding and presented some significant quality challenges in some areas”.
“Australian winemakers can expect more volatile vintages, but with good preparation and diligence in the vineyard and the winery, it will still be possible to succeed,” Mr Taylor said.
“According to the The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s Fourth Assessment Report, we can expect increased volatility in climatic conditions, which will not make growing grapes and making wine any easier,” he said.
Mr Taylor will be one of a panel of four expert wine roadshow speakers at Watershed Wines on Friday, August 31.
