Back to their best

UNSTOPPABLE: Ben Gerrans was one of the Hawks’ best. TON UP: Mitch Gerrans is chaired off the ground Sunday by League teammates marking his 100th game for the Hawks.

AUGUSTA-Margaret River Football Club hosted the Harvey Bulls at Gloucester Park on Sunday and gave them football lessons in all three grades.

The Hawks’ Colts’ 186-point demolition of the Bulls kept their finals dream alive. They remain in sixth place on the South West Football League ladder, behind Collie Eagles and out of the top five on percentage only.

The League team’s 138-point win and the Reserves’ 102-point win however did not improve their chances of playing finals football, now only unlikely mathematical chances.

The big win though lifted Hawks Reserves two places on the ladder to seventh, the same as the League team.

League

Hawks started strongly with Justin Simmonds kicking two goals in the first two minutes. Jeff Farmer kicked the first goal for the Bulls before Scott Marsden replied with two more for the Hawks. Harry Morgon also kicked two for the Hawks and Farmer roved the pack and kicked his second for the Bulls.

With great team play in the backline, Hawks goaled through Cody Alexander, Morgan kicked his third and, for the Bulls, Farmer kicked two more to give him four for the quarter, leaving Hawks in the lead by 27 points at quarter time.

The Hawks continued dominating, kicking six goals to the Bulls’ two in the second quarter, giving them a 51-point lead at half time.

Again they kicked six goals in third quarter, to the Bulls’ one, and led by 82 points at the final change, then overran the Bulls, kicking 10 goals to one, to finish extremely strongly.
